Busy week!

It's been hoppin' and happenin' around here at Bacon this week!  On Monday there was an intermediate awards assembly, Tuesday was the choir concert, Wednesday the choir went to perform at various places around town, Thursday night will be the Principal Coffee, and then Friday is the Staff vs. Students volleyball game!  Although busy, it's fun to have such a positive buzz in the building. :)

Don't forget that next week there are only 3 days of school for students, as they'll be dismissed for holiday break at the end of Wednesday.  Wednesday is also Pajama Day and classroom parties, so it will sure be another fun week around here.

Happy Holidays,

Indoor Picnic tomorrow!

Who says you can't have a picnic in November?  Our fabulous lunch staff says we can!  Tomorrow, the kids will enjoy hot dogs, mac'n'cheese, hot ham and cheese, and ice cream sandwiches for the picnic lunch.  And there will even be door prizes!  Now THAT sounds like a fun day to me.

Bacon Lego Robotics Team!

Congratulations to the Bacon Bulldogs Lego Robotics teams 'A' and 'B'.  They competed on Saturday, November 12 at Poudre High School.
They competed in a field of 49 teams to achieve their best scores in the robot competition, research project, and a team building exercise.
Both Bacon Bulldogs teams worked very hard to be both competitive and creative.  Coaches John Jones and Bryan Landwehr taught the
students how to program a robot, problem solve, and come up with creative ideas to complete required challenges.  Julie Trone worked
with the teams to come up with an innovative solution for the First Lego League 2011 theme, 'Food Factor'.  Team A chose a solution to
keep cut watermelon fresher longer; Team B chose a solution to keep milk fresher longer.  At the competition the judges were very
impressed by the ingenuity and complexity of each teams' solution.
The teams are:
TEAM 'A':  Blake Berlin, Nyambura Kimani, Gavin Trone, Tim Valstaad, Cole Perez, and Keller Gonzales
TEAM 'B':  Ben Connant, Trevor Merrifield, Jackson Trone, Mason Gomorra, and Liam Flake

We did it!

It never ceases to amaze us here at Bacon when we see the generosity of our school community.  And the Turkey Round-Up certainly was no exception!  What a great sight... kids running up, ready to hand in their turkey to help the food bank.  I actually saw parents and kids hauling 2-3 at a time!  We cannot thank our wonderful Bacon community enough.  You helped us win again, bringing in over 250 turkeys at a donation of over 4,000 pounds!  But more importantly, you helped us give the food bank a chance of making the holiday season a little brighter for families in need.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Turkey Round-Up

Hello there, Bacon Community!

We are ready for our annual Turkey Round-Up here at Bacon!  As you may remember, this is an amazing opportunity for the community to help stock up the Larimer Food  Bank for the upcoming holiday season.  AND, as you may know, we are the reigning champions here at Bacon!!  We are setting our goal at 210 frozen birds this year, trying to beat our 180 that we collected last year.  WE CAN DO IT!  Bring a frozen turkey to school the morning of November 15th and the 3rd graders will get them counted, loaded, and brought to the food bank.  Simple as that!

Have a great night!

Winter Wonderland!

Bacon Elementary has been buzzing with parents and families all week! It's been great to see all of the action in the evening, which in turn makes us thankful for all the wonderful parent support we have. Thank you to those who have taken the time to meet with teachers and support your child!

Although the snow and view is beautiful, are we ready to talk snow gear in October?? Ready or not, it's here so we better! This is a good time just to remind you how important it is to send your child with warm gear. Weather permitting, we do send kids out even if it's a bit chilly. And seeing how Colorado weather changes so quickly its important to send a variety of items for your child to dress in. Boots, hats, gloves, coats, and snowpants (especially for the primary kids) are really important. When they are dressed properly for the weather, it makes recess much more fun for everyone! :)

 Weekly Reminders:

A reminder about Halloween parade and parties on Monday: The parade starts at 2:45. You can watch your child walk through the parade in the gym or designated hallway areas, or outside if its warm enough. Check with your classroom teacher about when your child can get dressed for the parade as well. Classroom parties will follow the parade. Adults can (and are encouraged!) to wear costumes, but please do not wear a mask of any kind. We need to be able to identify you. :)

There will be a School Accountability Committee (SAC) meeting on Wednesday, November 2nd from 4:00-6:00 pm.  We plan to  work on the Quarter 2 School Accountability Report.

Did your child miss pictures the first time, or is their hair all mussed-up on the first one?  Picture retakes will be next Thursday, November 3rd.  Smile pretty! J

Have a great weekend!

Safety Week

Student Safety is a top priority here at Bacon Elementary and around the entire Poudre School District.  This week your child has participated or will participate in 4 safety drills that help keep them safe in different situations.  Those drills are fire drill, tornado drill, lockout, and lockdown.  Along with that, they got to take a tour of a real police car!  The building Safety and Security Team will meet soon after these events to process and make changes if necessary.

It's McTeacher Night at the Horsetooth/Timberline McDonald's this Thursday from 4:00-8:00 pm.  Bacon staff members will meet and greet kids during that time!  Come out and support our Bacon PTA that night!

Jeans and Pink day!

The Bacon Staff had an opportunity to support one of our staff members in her Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure fundraiser.  We got to wear jeans and a pink top while making a donation to support breast cancer research.  Check out the great picture!

Specials Calendar

Happy Tuesday, Bacon community!  It's another lovely fall morning here in Fort Collins.  Attached is a link to the Bacon Specials calendar, showing which color day it is today.  Helps when you have to plan for tennis shoes or clothes you don't mind a little paint on. :)
